White Water Rafting (Rafting and
Kayaking): |
 |
|
|
Rafting the
rivers of Nepal is an ideal way of escaping
the trappings of everyday life. Nepal's
rivers are second to none, originating from
the glaciers of the worlds highest
mountains, they plunge through towering
gorges and forested foothills before the
more tranquil journey along the Ganges plain
on their way to the Bay of Bengal. Rivers
here are regarded as goddesses, and are
included in a number of Hindu and Buddhist
religious rituals. You may be lucky to
witness a river festival during your trip.
Nepal Rafting. There is plenty of white water
to keep the adrenaline high, with more
tranquil stretches in between allowing time
to reflect on the abundance of natural
beauty. Camping overnight on the banks of
the river in two person tents often around a
campfire made from driftwood. All necessary
equipment is provided and each rafting team
is led by one of our experienced Nepali
leaders. Rafting experience is not necessary
unless stated in the itinerary.
Nepalese rivers can be grouped into three
categories on the basis of their origin:
1. Antecedent to the Himalayas
2. Below the Mahabharat
3. Below the Churia range
The major river systems-- the Koshi, the
Karnali and the Gandaki-- belong to the
first group. Rivers originating from the
Mahabharat Range, those which cut through
Churia hills, come under the second group.
These include the Karnali, Bagmati, Kamala.
The third group of rivers originate from the
southern face of the Churia hills. We run
rafting expeditions on the following river
routes: |

TRISULI |
|
The Trisuli is the most easily accessible
river and most popular rafting river. Trips
here are normally for one or two days. The
river is easily reached from either
Kathmandu or Pokhara. The trip can also be
extended into the Royal Chitwan National
Park. This river is also popular with
intermediate kayakers. |

|
SUN KOSI |
|
Sun Kosi RiverSun Kosi (River of Gold) has
been classed as one of the ten best rafting
rivers in the world. Big rapids, warm water,
no roads or towns. Extraordinary scenery and
great camping makes this a classic rafting
journey. The most common start point on the
Sunkosi is Dolalghat, a three hour drive
east from Kathmandu. The Sun Kosi traverses
the Mahabharat range and follows one of the
main geological fault lines of the
Himalayas. This is also an excellent trip
for intermediate and advanced kayakers. |

KALI GANDAKI |
|
A Kali Gandaki river trip first requires
either a flight or drive from Kathmandu to
Baglung. A typical trip could begin at
Modibeni, at the confluence of the Kali
Gandaki and the Modikhola. This expedition
has everything, exciting rapids, sandy
beaches, cascading waterfalls, gorges,
wildlife and a feeling of remoteness.
A beautiful unspoiled river with good white
water, Kali Gandaki, is ideal for people
wanting an exciting medium-length raft trip.
It is also suitable for a self-sufficient
kayak trip for intermediate and expert
kayakers. We recommend combining this river
expedition with a mountain trek beforehand.
It’s also worth considering continuing down
the lower Kali Gandaki (Ramdi-Narayanghat)
to Chitwan National Park. |

KARNALI |
|
Located north-west of Kathmandu it takes 15
minutes by car than 2 and half hours up to
the Nagarjuna hill, which also called
historical Jamacho Peak (6,300 feet) The
mountain is called Nagarjuna hill because
Nagarjuna's cave-residence is found there,
where he performed meditation. Besides
Nagarjuna cave there are some other cave of
Buddha, Mahasiddhas.
One of the famous story of the Buffalo
Buddha: A long time ago when Acarya
Nagarjuna was living in his cave, an idiot
buffalo herdsman from Kathmandu became
possessed by faith in the Master, and came
to him frequently offering curd and milk,
etc. Once when he asked Nagarjuna to come to
town, the Master refused, saying, 'If you
are able to meditate upon perfect reality,
sit down here'. So he did as he was told,
but obsessed by his work of guarding
buffaloes he could think of nothing but
buffaloes. 'Visualize yourself as a
buffalo.' Instructed the Acarya. So he
meditated in what today is called the Cave
of the Buffalo Buddha, and after a while he
actually became a buffalo. His horns struck
the rock above him and the holes, which
today are known as his horn-prints appeared.
Then Nagarjuna told him to contemplate his
body in its natural state of total
relaxation. Meditating according, his body
became as before and his senses became sharp
and alert, so he was given initiation and
precepts. After he had accomplished the aim
of his mediation, it is said that he shot
through the roof of the cave and went
straight to the Dakini's Paradise. |

SETI |
|
The short Seti River makes for an ideal
introduction to rafting. This is a really
pleasant and picturesque, one to three day
trip with no big rapids but plenty of
friendly small ones. From the put-in point
at Damauli (2 hour drive from Pokhara), the
Seti merges into the Trisuli on the second
day. This trip offers beautiful mountain
views of Annapurna South, Fish-tail and
Lamjung Himal. |
|
|
|
BHOTE KOSHI |
|
Bhote Koshi is another beautiful mountain
river. From Kathmandu, it takes only few
hours to reach the usual put-in place at
Bahrabise. We can arrange a day’s rafting at
any degree of difficulty. Camp overnight on
the river bank, and reach Dolalghat the next
day to catch your vehicle back to Kathmandu.
This is an ideal selection for those short
of time. |

MARSYANGDI |
|
Marsyangdi RiverThe Marsyangdi rises on the
northern slopes of the Annapurna Himal,
flows east through an arid valley around
Manang, and then swings south to join the
Trisuli River at Mugling. The Marsyanndi is
the most exciting class iv-v white water in
Nepal. A white knuckle trip from the time
your paddle hits the water till your feet
touch dry land so not for the faint hearted.
It is also considered to be one of the most
outstanding class iv kayaking rivers in the
world. Continuous exhilarating white water
with magnificent mountain backdrops. |
