Nepal can be
divided into three areas, the high
mountains, mid hills and low lands. The
climate in these areas is different as well,
having an arctic climate in the high
mountains, the low lands and thus more or
less the south of Nepal have a tropical
climate. In these subtropical jungles three
wildlife reserves, popular and open for
tourists, can be found.

Chitwan National Park
- 2 nights 3 days |
|
Royal
Chitwan National Park is synonymous with some of the most rewarding
and stimulating wildlife activities in Nepal. The park is approximately
1,000 sq. km. of sub-tropical lowland jungle, five hours by road from
Kathmandu or a 25 minute flight. It is home to a multitude of wild
animals including the Royal Bengal tiger and the endangered one horned
Rhinoceros, native to Nepal of which there are less than 1,500
surviving. There have also been more than 420 species of birds recorded
inside the park.
Most of our jungle itineraries include a stay at a lodge within the park
of which there are only six. The accommodation is normally in double
thatch cottage style rooms. A typical package is based on a two night /
three days stay. Activities include elephant safaris, canoeing, bird
watching and nature Tours conducted by resident professional guides and
naturalists.
A visit to Chitwan allows the opportunity to fully experience the
contrasts of Nepal. It offers an insight into a very different natural
and cultural setting compared to the more familiar visions of the
Country. Chitwan fits well into a tour with a varied itinerary and can
be easily combined with rafting and treks in the Annapurna region.
Our clients often choose to continue the trip from Royal Chitwan to
Lumbini, the birth place of the Buddha, an important pilgrimage site.
Others proceed directly to the beautiful lakeside town of Pohkara with
arguably the most famous mountain backdrop anywhere in the world.

In 1997,
an area of 327 sq. km surrounding the park was declared as a buffer zone
which consists of forests and private lands. The buffer zone is jointly
managed by the park and local communities. Together they initiate
community development activities and manage natural resources in the
buffer zones.
The park offers a variety of experiences in its vast undisturbed
wilderness. About 70% of the forest consists of Sal trees with a mixture
of grassland and riverine forests. Sal leaves are used in festival and
religious offering. The park is home to endangered animals such as the
Royal Bengal tiger, wild elephant, Greater one-horned rhinoceros, swamp
deer, and black buck; the other endangered species include gharial-crocodile,
marsh mugger and Gangetic dolphin. Endangered birds found in the park

Koshi Tapu Wildlife
Reserve - 3 nights 4
days
|
|
Koshi
Tappu Wildlife Reserve first Gazettes back in1976 was mainly established
to protect the rare wild water buffaloes. The area of the reserve
extends 175 sq. km. to the north of one kilometer long barrage that
spans the Koshi river. The vast expanse of water created by the barrage,
marshes, lagoons, mudflats and arable land that lie around it offers an
outstanding wetland which has about to created one of the best and
finest bird watching sanctuaries in Asia.
One of the most rewarding and greatest assets of Koshi Tappu Wildlife
Park is that it offers ample scope for nature walks. For those with
curiosity and perseverance, walking within the reserve on foot is the
most profitable way of exploring the grassland, river lagoons and
woodlands and vicinity of the barrage, just a short drive away.
The best time too visit this fabulous wildlife reserve is between
October to March when much of the migratory and local birds can be
sighted by the barrage and many of the river channels. Numerous
Himalayan peaks including the Makalu I (8,463 m), the fifth highest
mountain in the world can be seen during the clear time of the year.
The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is accessible by air, surface and
river. The journey by air is just 45 minutes flight to Biratnagar from
Kathmandu and then a mere one and half hours drive to the camp. Also
rafting down for 8-10 days on the wild stretches of the Sun Koshi River
is another exciting way to reach the destination. The third option would
be the scenic drive through the meandering countryside road of about 500
km. That takes almost 10 hours from Kathmandu.
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve also makes an exciting alternative
destination of r visitors who have already visited Royal Chitwan
National Park and Bardia National Park. Also for mountaineers and
trekkers heading of returning from Arun / Makalu and Kanchenjunga
region. It also serves as ideal location to break journey while en-route
to Sikkim & Darjeeling and Bhutan and have a brief relaxing stay. We
recommend minimum 2 nights or longer stay to appreciate and observe what
park has to offer at its maximum.
How to Get there:
-There is a regular flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar by twin otter or
Avero aircraft every day. From Biratnagar a comfortable one and half an
hours drive to the Camp.
-An exciting 8-10 days raft trip on Sun Koshi river reaches directly at
Koshi Tappu Reserve.
-The scenic drive of 9-10 hrs. through Nepali country side by surface.
Activities in the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve
(Bird Watching & Safari):
Program could be tailor made according to the interest of the guest.
Special sport fishing activities are available upon request |
